A Watch James Bond Would Be Proud Of….

WatchluxusI guess in an age where most people get the time from their mobile phone, a watch has to be a little special to turn a head. Enter Concord C1 Quantum Gravity Watch from Watchluxus.

Only ten will be made of these limited edition watches, that will be unveiled at the Baselworld 2009 show, as will the price.  It’s a fair bet, that unless you play premiership football for a living, the phone will suffice for time telling for now.

The watch features 18th century tourbillon technology, which involves a mounting the escapement and balance wheel inside a rotating cage.  In that space, gravity is defied.

This watch fuses 21st technology in the mix also, using phosphorescent nanoparticles as a power level indicator.  The watch winds up, or self powers via a mechanically wound movement

The deisgn of the watch is around space.  To understand all the mechanisms you would have to be a skilled watch maker, and possibly a physist as well.

Here though, for people like me, are a few details.

  • The concepts behind the watch are space, bi-axel tourbillon, suspension, phosphorescent nano particles, and transparency.
  • The phosphorescent nano particles are used to inidcate how much power is left in the watch.
  • Only 10 of these watches will be built.
  • The seconds are etched into the inside of the case.
  • Parts of the mechanism, are suspended on cables, like a suspension bridge.
  • The mechanism can be seen through the transparent casing.
  • The watch is mainly comprised of titanium and aluminium.

Stylish or pretentious?  Is it the exclusiveness that makes the watch what it is?  Or is there something more?
