Sony’s tiny hybrid fuel cell system unveiled

Posted on 06 May 2008

Everybody knows that fuel cells will change the face of the electronics industry once they finally start making their way into electronic devices. Recently, Sony has unveiled its own ultra-small hybrid fuel cell system which seems to be small enough to fit in one hand.

It measures 50mm x 30mm and combines a fuel cell, Li-polymer secondary battery and a control circuit. It looks like this is the first time Sony showed a complete fuel cell system that has a control circuit and secondary battery. The company expects to commercialize it and a Sony’s engineer said : ?We have been aiming to mount (a fuel-cell system) in mobile devices and finally reached a level of commercial design.? The fuel cell runs on methanol.
