Making its debut on the Japanese TV show, Nanikore Chin Hakkei, the Kabutom MX-03 looks like a giant, metallic insect.
This project was designed and built by a Japanese man from the province if Ibaraki. It took him 11 years to complete the beast, which has been named after Kabuto-mushi, or Rhinoceros-beetle, due to its shape.
The Robot can carry passengers, and can be controlled remotely, or from a cockpit located at the side of the creature.
It weighs 15 tons, and is 11metres long.
The Kabutom MX-03, is built for transportation, rather than warfare, but how good would it have been if all the robots on Robot Wars were like this!
The creature has wheels located underneath it to help support the weight. The legs are functional however, and are used to drag the beast along, rather than walk.
Here is a video, enlarge to full screen to make it all come to life!
Robots do seem to be in the blood of the Japanese, and they always seem to come up with something that makes their robots, that much more special and interesting. This beast is as ingenious as it is big, and who knows one day, could be the method of transportation of choice, if if only in Tokyo, and let’s hope, that if Robot Wars is ever remade, it is with the warriors this size!

Watching japanese animation have increase our expectation of what a robot should be able to do, even though robot wars is really and entertaining interesting, Im still partly disapointed that it can’t transform nor nor use a leaser sword.
