Price Of The Nintendo Wii Going To Rise – UK Only

Nintendo WiiThe Nintendo Wii’s success has been incredible and it’s popularity continues to grow. But due to currency fluctuations Nintendo will be rising the price of the consoles.

The Japanese based company said it will start charging retailers more for the console, in the UK the increase is expected to be around £20. With the majority of retailers getting battered by the credit crunch it is likely the cost will be passed on directly to customers. This would bring the price up to the £200 mark. Although hopefully some of the bigger retailers can afford to take at least part of the hit on their profit margin.

The price increase is a result of the value of Pound Sterling dropping massively against the Yen. So it looks like the price hike will only affect Britain for the moment. One good thing is that it only appears to be the consoles that will rise in price, and not the games and accessories.

It is a shame this has had to happen, but such is the nature of currencies and with the global economic situation so messy it is no suprise something like this has happened. Let’s just hope the value of the Pound can bounce back sometime soon so the console remains great value for money.

This price increase follows the announcements by Apple and Dell of price increases, so prices for us are going up and some manufacturers are slowing down development. Oh what a joy the credit crunch is!
