A few weeks back I posted the question of Ebook Readers vs Cellphones. Long-term I can’t see cellphones being the choice for reading ebooks, they just don’t have the necessary size screen to make reading on them an enjoyment.
On February 9th there is a news conference being held by Amazon, as of yet there is no official announcement why but everyone knows it is for the new Amazon Kindle! According to Amazon the Kindle was the best-selling electronic device on the .com retail site in 2008. So the new version needs to be good. If it is there is no doubt it will increase the difference between reading ebooks on a cellphone and reading on an ebook reader.
To be honest the Kindle is not a very good looking gadget, it is definitely in need of a decent facelift. However functionality remains the key so this should also see an improvement.
CrunchGear expects it to be thinner and with a touch screen. While the LA times reports on a sleeker design with the buttons for “page-forward” and “page-back” will be moved so they don’t get pushed accidentally. To be honest I reckon these things are a given and would be very suprised if the update didn’t feature these improvements.
One thing that seems to be certain is there will be no color screen. Lots of people are looking forward to the new device and as always, expectations are high, so lets hope Amazon delivers. Hopefully though the biggest announcement will be a price drop!
