Kam Soundpack 5 SD Pro – Amp and Speakers Review

Having had a low cost surround sound system from a major manufacturer previously, I felt the need to go for a more expensive pair of speakers that pumped out quality crisp sound.

Kam Soundpack 5 SD ProI decided to buy the Kam Soundpack 5 SD Pro. Having used it daily now for several months I rate it 8/10, full review below.

What You Get
For your money (£170 at time of writing) you get 2x speakers and an amp, see image. You will need to choose your inputs to play music through the system. I use a cable to play my laptop (the beauty of music videos on YouTube!) which plugs directly into the amp. I also have a Gemini Mixer hooked up to it which is connected to a Gemini CDJ.

The Amp
Compact and simple design. With a very nice volume display, when dark the blue light looks very cool. The volume control is a simple black knob which is super smooth when you turn it. The front also has the USB and SD card slots.

The Speakers
The sound is very impressive. And although they are only 95W each, they can go very loud and retain the quality beautifully. Each speaker has a 6.5 inch woofer built-in. Even after many hours of usage it doesn’t fail to put a huge smile on my face when a top dance song is turned up very loud and sounds amazingly crisp.

When you buy them they actually come with a soft grey mesh front cover, in the image it is removed so you can see the actual speakers. They look much better without the cover, but I keep it on to ward off dust and damage in case it gets bumped in to. Remove the cover purely to show off!

Setting Up
Very easy to do, simply plug in the amp and connect the wires from the amp to the speakers. Then hook up the inputs you want via the connectors at the back or the USB/SD front inputs.

Build Quality
When lumbering the speakers around deciding where to put them they feel good and solid. The amp also feels strong and well put together.

Using an Ipod
I have a Nano and was hoping to use it with the system via the USB port. However I couldn’t get it to work with the Nano. I have tested other Ipods and only the Ipod Classic has worked. Disappointed in this.

Value For Money
Given how good they sound, they look cool, and feel solid, I believe the system represents good value for money. Definitely better value for money then going for the cheaper speakers in the range.

Where To Buy
Kit like this is sold by DJ focused retailers, you won’t find them at your normal Dixons, Argos etc. Expect to pay around £170 (at the time of writing).
