iKey have developed a keyboard that users wear on their arms. This is the iKey Keyboard. The idea is that the keyboard which is designed for military use, can be easily transported from one place to another on the arm of a soldier. It is built to survive in environments which have harsh electromagnetic interference, and its green back lighting is night vision compatible.
Built into the glove, is an integrated pointing device, which works on Force Sensor Resistor technology, which as you have no doubt deduced, emulates the buttons on a mouse.
The keyboard itself has the basic 39 key layout, and can be configured for both right and left hand use. It is also designed to be used by a gloved hand.
The glove is configured to military MIL 461 standards, and it is a military use that iKey is marketing the glove keyboard at.
The main use of the glove is to allow communications in harsh environments.
- The glove can operate at extreme temperature range of -40 – +70 degrees Celsius
- Is impervious to dust and water
- The keyboard can snap on and off to make cleaning easier
- The keyboard has been designed to reduce clutter and keystroke error.
- Measures just under seven inches long by four inches wide. Has a depth of just under an inch
There is no word at this time if iKey will market the glove to the general public. It has to be said though, given the success of combat trousers, and to a degree combat jackets, would this not be a good idea?
