How To: Prepare Your PC For Windows 7

Well here it is, the golden child of Microsoft, Windows 7, the new addition to the Windows Family is sure to bring back confidence in Microsoft. I feel so very giddy, almost like the first day of school all over again!

Before downloading Windows 7 Release Candidate and or buying the final version, the kind people at Microsoft have laid down a few minimum requirements for your current machine to meet upto, to get the most out of Microsoft Windows 7.

Written in cold hard Microsoft sans serif font:

  • 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
  • 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of available disk space (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

For us mere mortals, the above looks like gibberish, so the thoughtful engineers at Redmond (Microsoft’s HQ) came up with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Now first thing’s first, download the software provided by Microsoft, and Install it onto your hard-drive.

Start up the program and click “Start Check”.

Sit back for a few minutes while the software determines if your PC or Laptop in it’s current state can run Windows 7.

You should eventually arrive at “System requirements”.

It’s seems like my PC has been a naughty girl, or perhaps it’s just me!

Take up the recommendations stated by the program, and rectify them, run the software again, and once you are given all green, you can install the release candidate or wait for the full retail version to come out.
