A builder from South London, England used Google Earth to steal lead with a value of £100,000, or $140,000 at the current conversion rate.
The 27-year old man is called Tom Berge and he used Google Earth to locate museums, churches and schools across South London. Then he would scale the roof, take the metal and abseil down the building. He managed to sell the metal to scrap dealers for a reported £44,500. Although that isn’t even half it’s full value it is still a good return on the 6 months he spent doing it!
We recently posted an article asking Where Are Google Technologies Leading Us? It looks like we may just have found part of the answer.
