First Image From The World’s Highest-Resolution Satellite! GeoEye-1

GeoEye-1 is the world’s highest-resolution commercial satellite, it was launched on Sept. 6 2008 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Here we have the first image from the satellite, it was taken from 423 miles in space!

This image above is of Kutztown University, Pennsylvania, and is the very first image taken by GeoEye-1. It was collected on October 7, 2008 from 423 miles in space as GeoEye-1 moved down the eastern seaboard of the USA!

Google intends to supplement Google Earth and Google Maps images with photographs taken using the GeoEye-1 satelitte. The date has not yet been set when this will happen so watch out for that!
