Fear His Hands, Fear His Voice, Fear His Name: Berti, The Rock-Paper-Scissor Robot!

berti_488972aHow long before robots take over the world?  That’s the question everyone is asking these days. Years, days, hours.  Who knows?  But in terms of robotic improvments in gesturing, Bristol Robotics Laboratory, and Elumotion, have invented Berti

Paul Brenmer, a PHD student said.  “Gesturing is an important part of human conversation.  But making a robot exactly human-like is really hard.”

To demonstrate Berti’s hand movements, he is able to play Rock, Paper, Scissors.  Opponents can put on a data glove, play a few round of RPS(Rock, Paper, Scissors), and this enables Berti to determine who has won.

If the opponent is victorious, Berti says, “You win“.

If Berti’s plans for world domination take another cataclysmic step towards fruition, he says, “You loose.”

Berti has started his world domination plans at the Science Museum this week.

Together with RPS, Berti has a few conversational openers too.  He can say:

“I don’t know what do you think?”. Obviously, one he is practising for when he has established a management structure.

“The time available is limited.”  This requires no explanation!!!

Rock, Paper, Scissors today, nano rockets, mind melds and who knows what else tomorrow?
