With this app you can book train tickets securely on your phone. RailEasy is a free application available on the iPhone, Blackberry (which is the version I tested), Android phones, Windows Mobile phones and also some ordinary mobiles. It is available to download now, check out the app page for info.
Once downloaded it is very easy to use. On the main page you have the options to make a new booking, check your existing bookings, or you can alter the settings or get some help.
How To Book
Making a booking is simple, first you choose the different requirements such as date, time, type of ticket etc. Next you enter the return info and click ‘Search’. This throws up the various tickets available and gives the details of it. You can then scroll across to check the different available tickets.
When you find the right one for you simply click on it, you can then read full details including a cost breakdown, and at the bottom there is a ‘Buy’ link so you can securely buy that ticket.
Once you have made the booking you will receive a booking reference and can pick them up from a station machine (no need to queue).
Usage
The app worked seamlessly for me with no hiccups. It takes a few seconds upon initial loading but after that it is very quick. It isn’t fancy or overly complicated, just does the job which is what you need with services like this. I’ve only tried the Blackberry version but if this is anything to go by I expect the other platforms to perform equally as well.
Conclusion
For convenience this is a very good application, and if you are regularly use the trains to lots of different locations I can imagine this being very handy. It avoids the nasty queues at stations, and is great to use when you have a spare moment but are not on your laptop/PC. And it’s free to download which is a Brucey bonus. Definitely a good’en.
